Celadon Thai - Reviews.

With each province offering its own regional specialties, cooking methods and local ingredients, Thai cuisine is a food loverís dream, Iíve had a love affair with Thailand and the food since I first travelled there five years ago. Once youíve experienced the real thing, fnding a taste of the authentic back home isn't so easy.

Hidden away in Causwayside, Celadon might not have the most central location but its reputation pulls in the diners. Decked out in a colour scheme of pale green and dark woods, open brick walls and Thai art the restaurant looks authentic and rustic. The staff, all Thai, are friendly and attentive, but not in that 'trying-too-hard, in-your-faceí way. The menu offers a wide range of dishes and youíll be spoilt for choice with the variety of seafood, game and meat options.

on the recommendation of the waiter I opted for the Yum King Scallop to start; a warm salad of poached king scallop, mango and cashew nut tossed in a delicious chilli, lemongrass ard lime dressing, £6.25. It was simply superb With a great kick to it that brought the dish alive. The Thai style chicken satay skewers with sesame seed, chunky peanut sauce and refreshing cucumber dip, £5.25, were demolished in minutes so I can only assume they also went down a treat.

Mains include traditional dishes like the green Thai curry with bamboo shoot, fresh chilli and sweet basil with a choice of chicken, beef, tiger prawns or vegetables (the prawns are recommended) and the red curry which was slightly too mild for my liking but was nice nonetheless. The popular Massaman lamb, £13.95, is also available and apparently itís very good here. The dish from southern Thailand is essentially slowly braised lamb shank in medium spices with potatoes, carrot and cashew nut. Or thereís the quirkier (for British soil anyway) Bangkok beef which is braised beef in Thai Singha beer, £12.95, and a nunber of delicious sounding seafood dishes.

If youíre craving some good, fresh Thai food, Celadon is unpretentious, authentic and will come up trumps for lovers of Thai cuisine or those looking to indulge their senses for the first time.
